Relay For Life Of Strath Haven – Saturday April 26, 2014

Over 44 teams and 300 participants are set to raise awareness of cancer and fundraise to assist the American Cancer Society fight the disease.

This year’s Relay is scheduled for Saturday April 26, 2014 starting at 10:00 AM at the George King Field located behind the Strath Haven Middle School on 206 S Providence Road in Wallingford, PA.

Relay For Life traces it’s origin to 1985 when Dr. Gordy Klatt walked and ran for 24 hours around a track in Tacoma, Washington, ultimately raising $27,000 to help the American Cancer Society fight the nation’s biggest health concern – cancer. A year later, 340 supporters joined the overnight event. Since those first steps, the Relay For Life movement has grown into a worldwide phenomenon, raising nearly $5 billion to fight cancer.

Nether Providence Township 2014 Summer Recreation Program

Registration for the 2013 Nether Providence Township Summer Recreation Program is underway at the Township building located at 214 Sykes Lane in Wallingford. Hours for registration are Monday through Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and will close when all camper spots have been filled. Payment must be made at registration time.

The venue for the program this year will again be the Wallingford Elementary School.

Meet The Easter Bunny On April 12

Wallingford Presbyterian Church will host it’s 6th annual Easter Eggstravaganza on Saturday April 12, 2014. Registration will begin at 9:30 AM. All children – toddlers through 5th graders are invited to attend.

There will be multiple egg hunting areas for different ages, and nearly 3,000 eggs will be awaiting discovery by young egg hunters!

The Easter Egg Hunt also includes a breakfast of pancakes and sausage with the Easter bunny as well as arts and crafts. Young egg hunters will also have the opportunity to get their picture taken with the with the Easter bunny.

Last year over 200 participated in this annual community event. The event is free, open to the public and will be held rain or shine!

Thomas Leiper House To Get New Roof

The Condition Of The Leiper House Roof Has Been A Concern Of The Township

With funding from a federal Community Development Block Grant the deteriorating cedar shingle roof of the Thomas Leiper House on Avondale Road will be replaced. The proposal to solicits bids for the roof work was unanimously approved by the Board Of Commissioners in a meeting earlier this month.

The Leiper House on the south west bank of Crum Creek was built as a summer home in 1785 by Thomas Leiper, patriot and prominent merchant. Leiper named the house Avondale and his descendants occupied the home until 1959. It is currently owned and operated by Nether Providence Township.

Township Mulch Deliveries Starting Soon

Are you looking to get your flower beds in shape for the Spring? Nether Providence Township residents will be able to order leaf mulch at the end of the month. Deliveries are available in a full truckload of approximately 5 to 6 yards for $105, and a half truckload size for $65.

Deliveries will be on Thursdays and Fridays and orders and must be made in person at the Township Building at 214 Sykes Lane from 9:00 AM to 5 PM. For additonal information call the Township office at 610-566-4516.
