HAPPY HALLOWEEN !!

Wallingford Presbyterian Church will host it’s second annual community Halloween Party on Friday, October 19, 2013 beginning at 6:30 PM.

The evening will start with dinner at 6:30 PM. After dinner, there will be pumpkin painting for those old enough to participate. For those too young to paint, or who might not want to paint, there will be a book reading. After the pumpkin painting, indulge in Halloween games: bobbing for apples, pumpkin bowling, pumpkin penny pitch, pin the face on the pumpkin and more. Cost of the evening is $5 per family.

If you plan to attend please register in advance to make sure there are enough pumpkins for everyone!

Wallingford PA Pick 5 Challenge Race – Saturday October 19, 2013

Runners and walkers will hit the streets of Wallingford on Saturday October 19 2013 for an annual fundraiser benefiting the township’s first responders – the Garden City Fire department, South Media fire department, and the Nether Township police department. Funds will also be raised for the nation’s foremost breast cancer awareness organization.

The “Fueled Up and Fired Up Challenge” will offer both 5K and 5-mile options, as well as a 1.5-mile walk and kids’ races. Started in 2006, the event has raised thousands of dollars for first responders. Some of the proceeds will also go to the Philadelphia affiliate of the Susan B. Komen for the Cure Foundation.

The course will start at Wallingford Train Station, on Possum Hollow Road; wind through several nearby streets, including Avondale Road; head north on a portion of the Leiper Trail, and end at the offices of Wilson Oil, on Rogers Lane, where after race celebration will take place. Activities will include games, a silent auction, 50/50 raffle and breakfast for participants and family members. Wilson Oil is the local sponsor of the event.

The registration fee for the race is $20 in advance until Thursday October 17, or $25 on the day of the event. Same-day registration begins at 8:30 AM at Wallingford Presbyterian Church, on Brookhaven Road, with the 5K and 5-miler getting under way at 10 a.m., the walk at 10:15 AM and the kids’ races at 11 AM.

A New Library Opens In Wallingford

Little Library On Cameron Drive

As of this morning there is a new library in Wallingford – The Little Library – located in the front yard of 110 Cameron Drive.

The Cameron Little Free Library joins the almost 6,000 Little Libraries around the world located in all 50 States, and 40 countries. The mission of these mini libraries is to promote literacy and the love of reading by building free book exchanges worldwide.

The librarian of the Cameron Little Library is Peggy Seifert, a retired teacher, who of course also resides at the library location. The rules of the library are pretty simple:

– It is self service – help yourself

– Take one book at a time

– If you love the book, you can keep it!

– If you like the book bring the book back if so others can like it to

– Bring a book of your own to share if you want (but you may not get it back)

Stop by the Cameron Little Library at 110 Cameron Drive, it is always open!

The Strawberries Are Coming – Monday June 3, 2013

Wallingford Presbyterian Church will hold its annual Strawberry Festival on Monday June 3, 2013, from 5:00-8:00 PM. Mark the date on your calendar and join the over 1,000 people who enjoy this much anticipated annual community event.

At the center of the festival are strawberries, cake, ice cream and chocolate covered strawberries. Other food items include hoagies, hot dogs, delicious roast beef – prepared by yours truly, and potato salad. There is a Book Nook to provide great buys in slightly used books and Attic Treasures for those seeking the perfect item to add to their collection.

For the children, there are games on the lawn. Plants to brighten your garden will also be available for sale.

The festival will be held rain or shine. The church office (610-566-1644, Ext 0) can provide additional information.
