Furness And Swarthmore Libraries Sponsor 5K Run – April 1, 2017

Helen Kate Furness Library and Swarthmore Library invite you to the inaugural 5K Walk/Run to celebrate our libraries and communities. Registration will be open at 8:00 AM on race day, Saturday, April 1st. The point to point course starts at Wallingford train station at 9:00 AM and ends at Swarthmore Library. There will activities for families at Central Park in Swarthmore including face painting, music by Allison DeSalvo, and an awards ceremony. This is a fun event for the whole family! The first 125 5K walkers and runners to register are guaranteed a t-shirt! All registered runners and walkers will be entered into a drawing to win a Complimentary One Night Stay (including Breakfast for two) at the Inn At Swarthmore and a $100 Gift Certificate to the Broad Table Tavern. There is a SEPTA train leaving Swarthmore station 8:01 AM getting to Wallingford station at 8:03AM, in case you want to leave your car in Swarthmore and get to the starting line via public transportation! Shred And Fed – Free Paper Shredding Event – April 1, 2017

On Saturday, April 1, 2017 from 1-4 PM, Wallingford Presbyterian Church located at 110 East Brookhaven Road in Wallingford will be sponsoring a “Shred and Fed” event in the church parking lot. This event is free and open to the public – no businesses please. Bring your unwanted paper items to be shredded in a highly secure, mobile shredding unit operated by professionals from Docuvault Delaware Valley while you watch. Please bring paper only. Plastic bags, metal, binders, binder clips, spiral notebooks, credit cards, computer hard drives, wood, and other materials cannot be shredded. Paper clips and staples are acceptable.

While the event is free participants are asked to bring a donation of non-perishable food items for local food banks at Chester Eastside and City Team. Alternatively, you can make a monetary donation to these local food banks that provide much-needed support to our neighbors in Chester.

West End Walk Townhomes Under Construction

New construction is book ending the approaches to Media Borough. West End Flats and West End Walk, both residential developments are under construction on the western entrance, and the eastern entrance on Baltimore Pike is witnessing the construction of a new Wawa and the demolition of the former Lukoil gas station which will be home to new commercial building of approximately 5,00 square feet.

West End Walk is a new community of townhomes adjacent to Glen Providence Park. Designed to evoke the eclectic architectural patterns of Media’s historic neighborhoods, West End Walk will offer 23 new townhouses and carriage homes with prices advertised as starting in the $400,000’s, and 4 existing twin homes that have been renovated.

West End Flats

West End Flats is a new luxury apartment community of 162 one and two bedroom units. Rents are projected to start at $1,800/month for a 1 bedroom apartment. West End Flats is joint venture of Arcadia Land Company and Cornerstone Communities. Nether Providence Township 2017 Summer Recreation Program Registration Starts April 3

Nether Providence Township has announced the return of it’s always popular Summer Recreation program for 2017. The camp for pre school through 5th grade children will run from June 26, 2017 to July 27, 2017 and will be held at Nether Providence Elementary School (NPE). Day camp hours are 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM – Monday Thru Thursday and Pre-School camp hours are 8:45 Am to 11:45 AM – Monday thru Thursday.

Fees are $375 for Pre-School children and $230 for Day Camp attendees. Registration begins on April 3rd at the Nether Providence Township Building located at 214 Sykes Lane, Wallingford, PA. Hours for registration are from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM – Monday thru Friday.

Nether Providence Twp residents will be enrolled first and non resident applicants will be processed in the order in which they were received beginning Monday May 1, 2017, based upon availability.

Delaware County Ordered To Conduct Reassessment Of All County Properties

In response to a lawsuit brought by a Rose Valley property owner, the Delaware County Board of Assessment Appeals has received an order from the County Court of Common Pleas to conduct a reassessment of all properties in the county. The board has been directed to submit a preliminary timetable to the court by July 1, 2017.

Until the countywide reassessment is completed, the prevailing Pennsylvania Tax Equalization Division (formerly STEB) ratio shall be applied to all tax assessment appeals. Delaware County is still in the process of deciding how to move forward in response to the court order.

The last county wide assessment was counducted in 1999-2000.
