The Thomas Leiper House will be hosting it’s annual Colonial Christmas Open House at the Leiper House located at 521 Avondale Road in Wallingford PA on Sunday December 18, 2016 from 1 PM until 5 PM. Rooms in the 1785 home of Thomas Leiper will be decorated for the holidays by 5 local garden clubs – Swarthmore, Providence, Springfield, Rose Tree, and Country Gardeners.

Visitors can also enjoy refreshments including a birthday cake in honor of Thomas Leiper who was born in Strathaven, Sctotland on December 15, 1745.

Tuesday November 8, 2016 is Election Day please remember to get out and vote!

Nether Providence Township is divided into 7 wards, each with 2 precincts. Each ward and precinct has an established a voting location for Tuesday’s election. There are a total of 9 voting locations in the township. If you do not know what ward you live in check the map of Nether Providence Township wards. Strath Haven High School Receives National Blue Ribbon Award

Strath Haven HS Named Among 10 Area Schools Receiving Blue Ribbon Honors

U.S. Secretary of education John King designated Strath Haven High School and 9 other area schools as winners of the 2016 National Blue Ribbon of excellence.

Only 329 schools across the nation were singled out for this prestigious honor. Schools win the honor for excellence in academics or for their work in narrowing the achievement gap among groups of students. Wissahickon High School was the only other high school in the area named as an award winner.

In the past Nether Providence Elementary, Swarthmore-Rutledge, Wallingford Elementary, and Strath Haven High School have all been recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as National Blue Ribbon Schools of Excellence.

Strath Haven High School has also been recognized as one of “America’s Outstanding High Schools” by US News & World Report and Newsweek magazines.

Strawberry Festival – Wallingford Presbyterian Church – Monday June 6, 2016

The always popular Strawberry Festival sponsored by Wallingford Presbyterian Church will be held on Monday June 6, 2016, from 5:00-8:00 PM, rain or shine. Mark the date on your calendar and join the over 1,000 people who enjoy this much anticipated annual community event.

There will be plenty of strawberries to accompany your cake and ice cream for dessert as well as roast beef and meatball sandwiches, hot dogs, hoagies, potato salad and other goodies for meals along with lots of beverages. Between food trips, take time to allow the kids to try out all of the games and the multiple moon bounces while you shop for Attic Treasures, used books and live plants. If there is no parking in the church lot, there should be space on the street, at Wallingford Elementary School, or the Wallingford SEPTA train station.

Nether Providence Implements Sewer Lateral Inspections

Sewer Line Being Cleaned

Nether Providence Township has made the inspection of sewer lateral pipes a requirement for the issuance of a Use & Occupancy certificate. Item #13 on the township’s U&O requires homeowners under Township Ordinance 782 to conduct an inspection of the home’s sanitary sewer line. The ordinance requires two sewer line tests. Homeowners can opt for either a smoke test or a dye test, both of which can pinpoint areas of the sanitary sewer line where surface water can enter the system, and a mandatory video inspection of the sewer line via a video camera.

Properties that have been built within the last 10 years and properties that have performed a sewer inspection within the past 5 years are exempt, otherwise when you are required to perform sewer lateral testing when you sell you home.

The Delaware County Regional Water Quality Control Authority’s (DELCORA) is urging it’s members to take action to limit the amount of surface water that is entering each community’s sewer lateral infrastructure. However the implementation of a point of sale plan to maintain the sewer lateral infrastructure may not be the most effective way to go. It is estimated that it will take 31 years in Nether Providence Township to fix the issue at the point of sale as properties are sold.
