The subject of the Wilson Proposal originally scheduled to be heard at the September 17th Zoning Hearing Board Meeeting has been postponed until Monday October 15.

Wilson Oil Has Proposed Installing a 30,000 Gallon Propane Tank
Wilson Oil and Propane has submitted a proposal for a zoning variance at an August 20 zoning board meeting to allow the installation of a 30,000 gallon propane tank, capable of storing up to 24,000 gallons of propane, at it’s Rogers Lane facility in Wallingford, PA. The proposed tank would measure more than 66 feet long and a diameter of nearly 10 feet.
Local residents expressed safety concerns regarding the proposal, and although the risk of a tank explosion is remote, the impact of such an accident could be far reaching. Wilson Oil indicated they would make all possible efforts to ensure the safety of the lo cal community. A worst case scenario involving the explosion of the tank could impact neighboring areas, such as Wallingford Presbyterian Church, Wallingford Train Station, and the Wallingford Elementary School.
The shutdown of local Sunoco refining facilities has forced Wilson to travel long distances to obtain propane prior to delivery.
The proposal could be voted upon at the upcoming September 17th meeting at the Nether Providence Township Municipal Building on Sykes Lane.

The 4.522 acre parcel of ground in the 900 block of South Providence Road, Nether Providence Township, formerly known as the Brower Funeral Home, maybe destined to be the site of new homes in the future.
At the August 2nd Board Of Commissioners meeting the future usage of the site came under discussion. The property is now in the hands of a bank, and currently For Sale signs can be seen on the property. Nether Providence Township manager Gary Cummings indicated that the new owner may be interested in subdividing the site and building three homes there.
A subdivision proposal for the property was approved several years ago, but has long since expired and the project would have to once again undergo such a review according to Cummings.
In December 2007, the funeral home’s then-owner, James Brower, and his wife, Gloriann, filed suit in the county Court of Common Pleas, seeking to challenge a longstanding deed restriction limiting residential development and barring most kinds of commercial development in the area. In response area neighbors asked the township to intervene and fight efforts to remove the deed restriction.
The neighborhood involved is part of Lapidea Manor, the former estate of Governor William C. Sproul, who was governor of Pennsylvania from 1919 to 1923, and passed away in 1928. Under a deed restriction put in place by Sproul’s heirs, only single or semi-detached private dwellings may be built on any of the lots there within 250 feet of any property line.
One exception is that no more than three “public garages, gasoline filling or automobile service stations” can be built but only within 125 feet fronting on Providence Road, and they must conform to “high-grade community development,” according to the deed restriction.

Asplundh Tree Trucks On Cameron Drive In Wallingford Last Week
The letter from PECO came several weeks ago informing me that Asplundh tree crews would be visiting Sproul Estates in the next several to perform preventative tree trimming maintenance. I read this notice with trepidation, remembering the last time PECO’s tree man came to the neighborhood, and the loss of about 8 feet of tree top from the Holly and Norway Spruce trees that form the border of my property underneath the power lines.
I realize the need to trim trees and vegetation that can pose possible threats to overhead power lines during storms, but it is very disconcerting to have these trees clipped like they went to noivce barber. A bad haircut from only lasts a few weeks, the effects of “vegetation management” remains for years.
The tree man was last in the neighborhood about 4 years ago, and the trees had regained a decent shape, and then they are decimated again. The crew chief told me they would remove up to 8 feet of the trees, and would try to preserve as much as possible. I would hate to see what the result would look like if I had not spoken with him.

US Navy Airship Over Wallingford,PA
A US Navy airship made a brief appearance over the skies of Wallingford, PA today at approximately 11:30 AM.
According the the US Naval Air Systesm Command web site the MZ-3A is 178 feet long, capable of flying up to 9,500 feet and cruises at 45 knots. The ship is fitted with two Lycoming engines and has space for one pilot and nine passengers. It has been operated by the Navy since 2006.
The MZ-3A is used as a testbed for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance. The airship sports new markings and colors, with the rudder emblazoned with red, white and blue stripes, celebrating the Centennial of Naval Aviation.
