The Nether Providence Historical Society has published a new history book about the township. Loaded with facts and illustrations, the book traces the township history from its original Lenape Indian inhabitants to the building of a new middle school in 2009.
Author Merv Harris has a long history with local history. He chaired the township’s tri-centennial celebration in 1987 and was founder and first president of the Nether Providence Historical Society. He has also served on the boards of the Delaware County Historical Society and the Delaware County Heritage Committee.
The book was released Nov. 29 at the Helen Kate Furness Library, where Harris was present to sign copies.
The book is for sale at Furness Library, Nether Providence Township Building, and the Leiper House for $10. The author will also sign copies of the book at the Leiper House Open House on Sunday, Dec. 12.
