When the proposed budget for 2015 was discussed at a Board of Commissioners meeting in November, Nether Providence officials were staring at a tax hike of 6.26%. Cost cutting over has driven the township’s tax increase for 2015 to below 3%.
The final vote in December trimmed the tax increase to 2.9% with a resultant millage of 4.91. The township’s tax increase for 2015 follows hikes of 2.04% in 2014, 6.7% in 2013, 4.97% in 2012, 3.72% in 2011 and 3.82 % in 2010.
Due to higher charges imposed by the authorities responsible for area sewage lines and waste-processing facilities Nether Providence Township residents will see an 11% increase in their annual sewer fee from $368 in 2014 to $408 for 2015.
The total 2015 Nether Providence Township budget has expenditures of about $6.65 million. As in years past, the largest outlays will go to police and public works costs, at about $2.1 million and $1.3 million, respectively.
