Investors purchased a record 18.2% of US homes, amounting to a new high of $63.6B in homes during the third quarter of 2021, according to a new Redfin analysis.

A record 18.2 percent of U.S. homes purchased during the quarter were snapped up by investors, up from 16.1 percent during the second quarter and from 11.2% the year before.

In total, investors bought 90,215 homes during Q3, an increase of 10.1% from Q2 and an increase of 80.2% year over year, marking the second-greatest annual gain ever recorded.

For this report, Redfin defined investors as “any institution or business that purchases residential real estate.”

The typical price of homes purchased by investors was $438,770, 5.3% higher than the same time in 2020.

In dollar amounts, investors purchased a record high of $63.6 billion in homes during the third quarter, up from $58.8 billion the quarter before and $35.7 billion the year before.

A whopping 76.8% of investor home purchases were paid in cash during the quarter.

A Tale Of Two Brothers And Their Divided Loyalty

The Vernon family of Nether Providence were prominent during the Revolution. Nathaniel Vernon had two sons, Nathaniel Jr. and Frederick, and resided at a home located at the end of present day Hickory Lane. At the outbreak of the war he was sheriff of Chester County and was an outspoken advocate of the cause of the crown, and subsequently became so offensive to the colonial authorities that he was declared a traitor, as was his son, Nathaniel Jr. The father fled to the protection of the British army, while Nathaniel, joined the Brithsh army serving with the Tory Light Horse. Frederick, sided with the Continentals, joined the army, and rose to the rank of Major.

During the British occupation of Philadelphia, Frederick obtained permission to visit his wife and family at his home in Nether Providence located at 204 West Brookhaven Road. His brother, Nathaniel learned of his visit and, and marched a platoon of Tory Light Horse from Philadelphia to Nether Providence, intent on capturing Major Vernon. The troops surrounded the house. Nathaniel entered the home and was about to climb the stairs, when Frederick, who was aroused by the noise, halted him from the head of the stairs, where he stood armed with a pistol. Nathaniel made it known that he had come to take him prisoner and that he must surrender, since troops were surrounding the house.

Nathaniel tried to convince his brother of the inevitable British victory, and offered him a commission in the British army. He had come for his welfare he assured his brother. Frederick replied that he would never surrender, that the British could not take him, and that if his brother or any other person attempted to ascend the stairs he would shoot; only as a dead man could they capture him. Nathaniel finding his brother so determined, withdrew his troops, and Frederick remained true to the Patriot cause. At the conclusion of the war he was one of the founders of the Society of the Cincinnati, and died in Nether Providence at an advanced age. The fate of his loyalist brother Nathinel is unknown.

Unwanted E-Waste Will Be Collected At The Recycling Event

Nether Providence Township and Media Boro are sponsoring an electronic recycling and shredding event on Saturday Saturday April 13, 2019 from 9 AM to 1 PM in the Acme parking lot located at 527 East Baltimore Pike, Media, PA.

E-Waste: Recycle almost anything with a plug for free! Old-style TV’s and CRT monitors do require a disposal fee – dependent on it’s size.

Shredding: documents with sensitive information that need to be shredded in a safe, secure, and environmentally friendly method on site. No CDs, or DVDs.

E-Recycling service is provided by PAR RECYCLE WORKS – a local nonprofit that sells reusable materials collected from electronic devices to help pay for salaries and job skill development for formerly incarcerated men and women, in order to support their productive re-entry back into society. 2019 Nether Providence Township Summer Recreation Program

Nether Providence Township has announced the return of it’s always popular Summer Camp for 2019. The camp is for children entering kindergarten through 6th grade as of September 2019. The camp will run from June 24, 2019 to July 25, 2019 and will be held at Nether Providence Elementary School (NPE). Camp hours run from 8:30 AM to 12:00 PM – Monday Thru Thursday.

Fees for the 5 week program are $285 for kindergartners and $260 for older attendees. Registration will take place daily beginning Monday April 8, 2019 at the Nether Providence Township Building located at 214 Sykes Lane, Wallingford, PA. Hours for registration are from 9:00 AM until 5:00 PM – Monday thru Friday.
